|
|
First of all, Hi Slackiller, remember me from Gangwars? You helped me out when I first started mapping and got me into it. Thanks for that. It's ok if you don't remember, it was a long time ago.
I hear about people using hint brush to like...lower the amount of something? Something "speeds". How can I use this?
Also, there is a texture that turns the thing that I put it on invisible, what is this texture and I heard it helped do something. What is it?
Thank You. _________________ >>Check out my band<<

Hi, I remember you.
they try to lower r_speeds.
hint brushes can help some or hurt alot if used wrong.
there are other ways of reducing r_speeds that should be tried first.
http://www.slackiller.com/tommy14/rspeeds.htm
or http://www.tdcom.net/lacos/?section=2&subsection=6
making sure brush shattering is minimized is the best way to control r_speeds. then texture stretching is the next best way to reduce them.

hint tutorials:

Inever really had to use hint brushes on my maps, so I never got into using them. I know hint texture goes on 1 side of the brush and skip texture on the other 5 sides. also zoner's compile tools are needed to compile. they can be confusing .... the tutorials. |

Hmm, I think I won't mess with the hint brush then till I'm more experienced...
I know, I saw those pictures on the front page. They're awesome! I can't start mapping for Half-Life 2 till I get my new computer (my bro is giving me his 2000 dollar one when he goes to college and getting a laptop!) I didn't know that was de_vine2 though, will you convert it to Gangwars when it's on the Half-Life 2 engine? We are workin on the new update for Half-Life 1 first, so we can end with fixing bugs etc. Then we will move to Gangwars: Source, then Gangwars 2. Urban Predator is the coder and he has started testing it. So it must be nearing completion. He is working alone though...and I'm mapping. Here is a map that I plan on converting to Gangwars: Source that I made in Valve Hammer Editor 3.5 in Half-Life 1.
The pictures are old though.
The map is gw_hood, and I doubt it would run on the Half-Life 1 engine very well.

Actually, when I checked the Gangwars Forums just now, Urban Predator has posted this.

Hey...
I know yall are excited about 1.5. I am too. We are now working on alpha 3 (1.5a3). This is what we have right now:
1) Back end (mp.dll) starts up fine, and it doesn't seem to be crashing the dedicated server. We haven't been able to put a load on it yet, because:
2) Front end is another story. I am having one hell of a time tracking down a line, probably a pointer pointing at null, that is causing an access violation as soon as client.dll is called. When I get the new client.dll to get it's hands out of Windows' panties, the alpha testing crew can handle their business and get us ready for a beta.

So, I would like to ask if any coders, mappers, modellers, etc, here would like to help with this mod?
And! i just asked my older bro and he agreed to letting me get Half-Life 2 whenever I want and play! I just may go out and buy it now. Sorry if I sound childish guys, I'm 15. Also, sorry for this "essay" Slackiller, but you are my favorite mapper. And I appreciate you getting me into mapping long ago. Oh, and Topaz (One of the original makers of Gangwars) has given us permission to make the new versions. So it's ok.
