ladders are made out of 2 brushes.
1st brush is covered with the ladder texture and made into an entity (hit the "To Entity" button). make it func_illusionary and in the properties window select render mode "Solid" and fx amount "255".
2nd brush is made the same exact size and placed just in front of the other brush (1 unit in front). Cover this whole brush with the "aaa trigger" texture and hit the "To Entity" button and make it a func ladder.
(this is the brush that will be climbable, the 1st brush just looks like a ladder.)
