Alright, every one usealy ask how to do this and that for there map. But, what I wanna know are what are the basic fundementals of a so called "grate map". Because I'v always wanted to create a map that every one loves to play, EXP: "de_dust2. Yes, not every one likes it but, a large part of the CS world does how ever like it. WHY??? What did the mapper do to this map that makes it so grate to play? Why do so many players love this map?

Thats just an example map. What im looking for Is what must you do to your custom map that makes every one or a large part of CS players want to play your map dayly.

you can read what the maker(dave j) says about it.
http://www.johnsto.co.uk/text.php?t=making_dust2

he always has good info on making maps, what he thinks makes them good/bad. check his blogs

also see http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/How_To_Develop_A_Map_That_Works

many people have their opinions, make what you like and then see how other people like it Very Happy

Wow thanks for the link to the making of Dust. I dont even play CS and know about that map, in fact i played CS once and it was that map. He offered not just text but images to show you things. Great article, great link thanks Slack.

I can say from TFC that a great map is simple and doesn't have a choke point. Every area of every section should have two entrances. The TFC version of de_dust is 2fort. Note: you can enter the enemy base 2 ways normally (water, front ramps). You can enter Basement 2 ways (Elevator, Spiral) you can enter Flagroom 2 ways ( long or short hall).

Simple hard to get lost on map, with just enough variety to keep you interested.

No I didnt know that, but its another good solid map. One of the sexiest in TFC. But its not balanced and therefore not a great TFC league map. The two bases are not identical and have clear advantages, disadvantages.

Making a good map isn't that hard a great map is a little harder. But a good map is simply a map with some lightning that you thought about. Some sounds around certain areas. And mostly it's easy to have about 3 ways (or more) to get from CT spawn to T spawn ( and 2 ways for getting to hosties or bombs ). If you build this in your level you will notice it gets a lot more playeable
